SEATTLE, WA – On May 9th, comrades from US Friends of the Soviet People participated in Victory Day celebrations at the Russian Community Center in Seattle, Washington.
Victory Day commemorates the victory of the Soviet Union and other Allied forces over Fascism in the Great Patriotic War (World War II).
The festivities of the night included a musical performance by US Friends of the Soviet People of several Soviet and anti-fascist songs. Among the works performed by USFSP were “Wide is My Motherland“, “Moscow Nights“, Shostakovich’s “Waltz No. 2”, “Bella Ciao“, and “Katyusha“. The highlight of the night was a solo performance by a USFSP member of “The House I Live In“, a song written by American Communists and anti-fascists Abel Meeropol and Earl Robinson.
In recent years, the Victory Day celebrations in Seattle have been the target of protests by those who support the Fascist regime in Kiev. Nevertheless, the Russian community in Seattle has persevered, and will surely continue to persevere, in keeping alive the celebration of the greatest victory over fascist reaction in history – the victory of the Great Patriotic War.
