
The hopes of humanity were temporarily set back on December 25, 1991 when the crimson banner of the Soviet Union flew over the Kremlin for the final time. In its place, the Tsarist flag returned.
The counter-revolution was finalized and capitalism was restored in Russia. The hopes of the millions of teeming workers of Asia, Latin America, Europe, and Africa were crushed when they lost their shining beacon and a true economic benefactor without exploitation.
Since the counter-revolution, the world has experienced nothing but ethnic wars orchestrated by monopoly capital to plunder previously independent countries. Under capitalism, lands that knew fraternal peace are now at each others’ throats.
Karl Marx talked about how world progress comes in ebbs and flows just as the tide comes in and out. The Paris Commune lasted 70s before it was drowned in blood by the bourgeoisie. The Soviet Union lasted over 70 years before it was destroyed by the bourgeoisie. The next time the socialist revolution comes to the world, it will last over 700 years. After visiting Soviet Russia in 1919, American journalist Lincoln Steffans declared, “I saw the future and it works.”
